JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing new and existing products. This position also evaluates and recommends specifications and ensures products meet the technical and functional requirements utilizing reliable, efficient and cost-effective processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Successfully complete product design projects according to schedule, cost, and design specifications
Design new products or redesign existing products as assigned and build prototypes
Develop test protocols and build test apparatuses as needed to reliably evaluate or quantify performance of new or existing products
Coordinate scheduling and communication with other departments
Work with outside vendors and suppliers as necessary
Assure necessary product documentation (drawings, B.O.M., material specifications)
Assist manufacturing on equipment tooling selection
Provide technical assistance and product training to Inside and Outside Sales and Customer Service Provide product detail and review technical literature such as catalog data, engineering news bulletin and installation instructions
Perform competitive product benchmarking
Provide technical information on new applications or field issues
Maintain responsibility for product design through PDLC and PLC
Support and participate in cost-reduction projects
Other responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
BSME degree with product development or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
Previous experience as a product engineer preferred
Strong problem analysis and solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience in the garage door or fenestration industry is a plus
Familiarization with industry standards (e.g. DASMA) preferred
Experience with ASTM building standards, building codes, windload testing is a plus
Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks is preferred
Must be able to work full time on-site
